Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo has been elected the new Public Accounts Committee chairperson replacing Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba.

Kipkelion West MP Jackson Rop was elected the vice chairman.

In the election on Tuesday, Gumbo garnered 13 votes against ODM national chairman John Mbadi’s eight.

Balambala MP Abdikadir Aden got four votes, Mwatate MP Andrew Mwadime got one while Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu pulled out of the race.

The name of Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, who was tipped to replace Namwamba, was dropped under unclear circumstances.

The election was carried out by secret ballot in Committee Room 9 in Parliament Buildings.

The reconstitution of the 27-member committee comes after the House adopted a report of the Powers and Privileges Committee chaired by Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi.

The committee recommended that five members, including Namwamba and former vice chairperson Cecily Mbarire (Runyenjes) be barred from engaging in the affairs of the new PAC.

The team is said to have breached the parliamentary privilege and code of conduct.

Cord leaders in the new PAC are Gumbo, Simiyu, Aden and Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire.

Jubilee leaders are Kieni MP Kanini Kega and Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen.
